Bringing Smiles to Underserved Communities
Mission trip to the Dominican Republic
Around the world, millions of people lack access to regular dental care. In many nations, entire communities go without even the most basic oral health services due to poverty, isolation, or limited resources. These underserved areas often face dental issues that go untreated for years, leading to pain, infection, and preventable tooth loss. That’s why efforts like dental mission trips are so important—they bring relief, education, and hope where it’s needed most.
Making an Impact in El Valle, Samaná
This March, Dr. Natalia and Dr. Alexander from TLC Dentistry joined Bright Island Outreach on a life-changing mission trip to El Valle, Samaná, a small town in the Dominican Republic. In just a few days, their team provided critical dental care to 120 patients in the community. Together, they performed:
- 74 tooth
extractions
- 117
fillings
- 48
dental cleanings
(prophylaxis)
- 26 fluoride treatments
Each patient walked away with a healthier smile—and in many cases, relief from pain they had endured for months or even years. The experience was both humbling and inspiring for everyone involved.
A Team of Dedicated Dental Volunteers
This mission wouldn’t have been possible without a committed group of volunteers. The Bright Island Outreach team brought together professionals from around the world to serve those in need. This included:
- 14 international dentists
- 3 dental hygienists
- Local and international dental students
The collaborative spirit, hard work, and compassion shown by the team made a powerful impact in El Valle and created unforgettable memories for everyone involved.
Donations from businesses such as Risewell and Patterson Dental provided additional resources for chairside treatment as well as patient resources such as toothbrushes and toothpaste.
